Bad news for fans of Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition this year. The game’s developer, World’s Edge, had previously announced that a new DLC would be released as part of the Age of Empires series anniversary celebration. However, this plan has been canceled, disappointing many players who had eagerly awaited the introduction of a new civilization.
In an official statement on the Steam page, the developers acknowledged the situation. In the meantime, as for the game, we were able to release a patch at the end of last year, but we know that the patch was not as comprehensive as you wanted it to be,’ they stated. This has disappointed many fans who were expecting important content updates.

However, the developers said they were looking forward to including Age of Empires content in the current generation of games. Since its launch in October 2020, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition has received ongoing development. The team also thanked the community for contributing and expanding the content of the game by means of mods, which have been a great contribution in the preservation of the game.
This being the case World’s Edge will not be releasing the planned DLC but they still plan on supporting the game. They will also keep on supporting the servers, offer free trial of civilizations, and offer support services to those who need help with the game. I understand it’s a letdown that it’s been cancelled, but the community can at least enjoy all the fan-made updates and such. The future of Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is actually dependent to a large extent on a great community and modding community.
